Assumption - a destruction

The first lesson that I learned was not to assume anything while making decisions. It has become habit in many to make assumptions even without their knowledge.  If one consciously observes oneself and if he/she ever said "I thought", he/she is already into the habit of making assumptions.
"I thought that the meeting got cancelled as it was long weekend"
"I thought that the month end is the last date to file returns"

Decision taken on fact will be more desirable than the one based on assumption. Decision maker need not be CEO or Project Manager. Even the engineers in the project are decision makers, when they want to plan for the assigned tasks, escalate problems, choose one among the best solutions for the problem, choose one of the best tools for the task etc. When the assumption comes into role, the decisions might be destructive, unless it turns out to be a real helping factor by itself. The destructive decision will drag us away from the goal or mission.

"Decision" when uttered should not be taken as business term of higher office. Even when someone sends out an email, he decides on the information to be sent and it should always be based on the fact and not on assumption.

Assumption, sometimes makes one a quick and incorrect decision maker as below.

            Incident              -           Assumption       -           Fact                  -           Decision
A person late on date    -   He is unable to cope -     person met with      -  Need soft skill training
of delivery                           with pressure                   an accident

RM asks status on AI     -  RM never reads email -    his laptop crashed    - should give it as feedback
which was already                                                     and being serviced
emailed

STOP ASSUMPTIONS - MAKE WISE DECISIONS
